Summer Makeup Tips

"Hottest Tips For Hot Weather."

When summer arrives your makeup should go sheer! Here are seven summer makeup tips to help you make the transition. A few suggest ways to adapt makeup you probably already have on hand, while others include neat new products to try.

Tinted Moisturizers

Reconsider the type of makeup foundation that you are wearing. Heavy matte makeup foundation looks out of place during the summer. Switch to the sheerest foundation you can get away with wearing.

Tinted moisturizers are often a good replacement for your regular foundation. If you've never used one before then try Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer. It's one of the best.

Of course, you don't have to buy one. You can actually mix your own. Just take a little of your foundation and mix it with a drop or two of your favorite moisturizer. It's also a great way to insure a perfect foundation match.

Simple Tip
You can subsitute a makeup primer for your foundation. It will enhance your skin and make it appear smoother without adding color.

Self-Tanners To The Rescue

If your skin is uneven or pale then a tinted moisturizer may not be enough to give you smooth looking skin. How do you solve the problem? Use a self-tanner product. It doesn't have to be a dark one, just one to even out your skintone. After it fully develops, apply your tinted moisturizer.

Simple Tip
Mix a little white sugar with your cleanser to gently exfoliate your skin.

Switch To Gel Blush

While it's true that powder blushes will absorb some of the oil on your skin, it's also true that on many women they look like they are setting on top of the skin. Summer is the season to switch to a either a gel blush or a tinted blush stick. If you want to blush all day then you can apply your blush products in layers.

There are a number of gel blushes and tinted blush sticks to choose from. Nars offers The Multiple in several shades. Benefit Cosmetics has Rush Hour which is good for medium and dark skin tones. Both are excellent for creating a natural look.

Simple Tip
Put a little dab of moisturizer on a white makeup wedge and then use it to apply your blusher product.

Brighter Lipgloss and Lip Balm

Summer makeup tips almost always include a recommendation for a brighter lipstick color. Why? Because it looks fresh and just about anyone can get away with wearing a bright lipgloss or tinted lip balm during the hot summer months.

The trick is to keep your lip color either sheer or glossy. So...if you have a lipstick you love to wear all the time then put a clear lip product over it. To make your lipstick look sheer, put it OVER clear lipstick.

Not a fan of lipgloss? No problem, just substitute a bright tinted lip balm for your regular lipstick. Better yet, tint lip balm that you already have!

Simple Tip
If you prefer, just use your favorite lip pencil and clear gloss for an enhanced nude lips look.

Bronzers Make The Look

Makeup bronzers are a great way to boost your look on a moment's notice. These products can be tricky...use a light hand in applying. Remember, if it's not enough you can always apply a second layer.

Applying a gel bronzer with your fingers is easy and allows for even placement. Use it where the sun would naturally hit. You can also use them as eyeshadow.

Simple Tip
This is one time when those little eye makeup sponge tip applicators work great.

Shimmer Makeup

To shimmer or not to shimmer? Of all the summer makeup tips, this is probably the most confusing. Powder shimmer products for the face should be used sparingly. Apply them in a sheer layer on your cheekbones and use them for eyeshadow highlights.

Simple Tip
Out of shimmer? Try substituting a different type of product. The new shimmer moisturizers work perfect to give your skin a slight glow.

Waterproof Mascara

Waterproof mascara can sometimes be drying to your eyelashes. If you are using it during the summer make sure to remove it at night and moisturize your lashes.

Simple Tip
Always remember to fluff eyelashes after each coat for a completely natural look.

The summer makeup tips that you decide to add to your
