Painted hands are a wild form of body painting where you can make fantasy makeup creatures come to life – if only temporarily. When you were a child did you ever try it? I remember my own son begging me to draw fun little creatures on his palms and fingers when he was little so he could have puppet shows. Here are some makeup tips to help you create the magic.

Painting Hands The Easy Way

There are two ways to approach this type of body art. The easiest way is to use makeup to practice with.

  • Eyeliner pencils are perfect for drawing temporary body art with.
  • You can also “paint” in colors with lipsticks and eyeshadows just like you can do with temporary tattoos or glitter tattoos.
  • Cheap eye makeup pencils come in all different colors and you can find them for only a dollar or two.

You probably did this as a child – remember the fun hands you drew with eyes and a mouth? Then, you could make the mouth talk? It was meant for fun and that’s what this is for.

The difference you see in these body art photos of animal hands is that they were done for the most part with blocks of color. Hand paint color – face painting cosmetics – can be obtained from:

  • Ben Nye
  • Mehron
  • Snazaroo
  • Graftobian

You could even get started by using a little Halloween makeup kit. They usually contain white, orange and black colors. Remember to only use cosmetic grade color which are made specifically to be applied to the skin.

What about creating the eyes? Eyes can be difficult to paint on hands, but that’s where your eyelash adhesive comes in. You can simply use it adhere sequin eyes or even give your creatures false eyelashes. The ones shown here are meant to look like animals which we are familiar with, but you can create all kinds of wild designs.

Painted hands are a fun activity that all age groups can enjoy. The next time you have a party or even if you’re stuck inside for an afternoon or evening – give it try. Let your imagination take flight!
