When Applying Makeup Contacts Matter
When you're applying your makeup contacts matter! Contact lenses can be a real boost when it comes to changing your look. They’re both fun and serve a useful purpose, but there are some things you need to keep in mind when applying when you want your makeup and contacts to work together.
Using The Right Makeup
Your makeup generally needs to be oil-free. This means that your primers and moisturizers should be oil-free formulations. The same goes for your foundation. It needs to be oil-free.It’s just a natural part of being human that we touch our face. It’s too easy for the invisible oils from your cosmetics to transfer to your lens. It should also be hypoallergenic. Stay away from makeup that has fragrance in it.
Foundation and Powder:
If you wear powder then think in terms of using a cream to powder foundation. It gives the benefits of both foundation and powder but has the advantage of not being flaky. That way you won’t risk powder particles getting into your eyes.
Mascara Considerations:
Mascara presents some unique problems. Most of the formulas today are meant to enhance your eyelashes by making them look thicker. You need to make sure that your favorite mascara does not contain “fibers.” The problem is that during the day, the fibers dry and they can flake off. In other words, the tiny flakes are too near your eyes for safety if you have your contact lenses in. Make sure the label says that it’s safe for wearing with contacts.

Eyeshadow For Contacts:
When you’re wearing eyeshadow and contact lenses then you need to think about what can get in your eyes. Cream eyeshadows work for some people but they have a tendency to travel. If you decide on powdered eyeshadow then avoid frosted eyeshadow. Frosted eyeshadows contain minute particles – mica – which makes them shimmer. It can flake and pose a problem for your lenses.
Skipping The Eyeliner:
This is one time when it really pays skip the eyeliner. Eyeliner is just to close to your eyes. However, if you do decide to line your eyes, never line the inner rims of your eyes. Don’t even think about it. Makeup travels and it smears off into your eyes. When you see women using the white eyeliner or dark eyeliners on the inner rim, it’s usually for photographs.
Makeup, Contacts, Removal
At the end of the day, remove your contacts before taking off your makeup. You probably do this anyway, but it’s just a reminder. The invisible film from cosmetics can damage your lenses. If you take these simple makeup precautions you’ll find that your eyes feel better and your contacts last longer.
By the way – Always follow your doctor’s instructions regarding whether to put your lenses in before or after applying makeup. Generally, soft lenses are put in before and rigid gas-permeable lenses (RGP) are put in after. There are so many types of contact lenses now that you need to check with a professional for what to do with yours.
