Would you like a makeup face chart that looks exactly like you? Have you ever wondered if there was a way to move beyond those simple lined sheets you see at the cosmetic counters and actually have one that resembled you? This Makeup Notebook tutorial will show you how to transform your own photo into a canvas perfect for applying makeup. You’ll be able to try new colors with ease and create your own wild fantasy designs.
Transform Your Photo The Easy Way
If you’re ready to kiss those ho-hum makeup face charts goodbye then just grab one of your favorite photos. For this tutorial I’m going to show you how to do it from a model because this type of pretty eye makeup works well and will allow me to give you a better visual of the possibilities. Follow along with the steps and you’ll get the idea of how it’s done.
Step One: Select your photo.
Makeup Face Chart Model |
I’m going to use this model as an example so that you can see the variations that are possible. To make your own please note the points below.
|
You now need to make a choice. Do you want a color chart that looks like your skin tone or do you want a chart with black and white?
Step Two: Print it on pastel paper.
Your photo will appear smooth. |
Here’s the key. Print your photo out on white pastel paper. It can be either art paper or textured pastel paper designed for printers.
|
Step Three: Color in your canvas.
This is a soft makeup look. |
Once you’ve printed out the photo, it’s time to start applying eyeshadow and blush colors. You have a couple of options.
|
The texture in the paper picks up the color so your cosmetics will adhere. That’s why it works better than just plain smooth paper.
Step Four: Make it your own.
Model on a white background. |
Are you wondering why I chose this sketch?
I wanted you to see this alternative option if you prefer a white background to work from.

The gray shading subtlety changes your colors and makes them slightly darker. Try both a line drawing and a sketch like the one above and you’ll be able to see the difference.
Turn Your Face Charts Into Art
Let me tell you, it’s easy to get addicted to this type of art. I spent the afternoon just printing and playing with alternative looks. Here are a few ways to add visual interest that will wow a viewer. You might even want to make a series.
- Take a few cute fairy temporary tattoos with wings. Use the wings on the outside of your eyes. Fill in with your favorite cosmetic shades.
- Add crystal tattoos with a sticky back and you can just pop them on in your own design.
- Use glitter to give your picture extra sparkle.
- Try out your favorite Halloween makeup ideas for amazing looks.
Finish Your Designs
When you are creating art with cosmetics they need to be set or they’ll smear. The way to do that is to spray them with a finishing spray designed for pastels. Lightly mist your picture and then let it dry completely.
When it is set and dry place it in a clear sheet that you can get from an office supply store. I prefer to use the type that will fit into my notebook. That’s because it makes it easy to refer back to.
Designing your own makeup face chart is easy, fun and offers a whole new realm for creative designs. Once you’ve made your masterpiece you might just want to frame it!
