Professional Foundation Brushes
Did you become interested interested in foundation brushes when kabuki brushes were introduced with mineral makeup? For many women this was the first time they had ever heard of applying makeup with a brush.
Next were liquid foundation brushes and suddenly applying foundation seemed to become more complicated, but the truth is that professional makeup artists have used these same tools for many years.
There are some advantages to using a brush. Some makeup artists use their fingers to apply foundation, some use sponges and others grab their favorite makeup brush. Here’s why:
They give a finish that’s almost like high definition makeup.
It takes less of the makeup product to get a good result. (Sponges take more.)
You can use two or more colors and have better control over blending.
They can be used to add contouring and highlighting colors.
You have more control over spot covering areas.
Professional cosmetic tools are made to be used throughout the day. These differ from cheap foundation brushes, but if you only apply makeup once a day then you might find that one of the cheap foundation brushes work fine for you.

How To Use A Foundation Brush
There’s a trick to brushing on foundation that you probably have never heard of. It’s called the “C” stroke. If you just apply face makeup with a brush and horizontal or vertical strokes you risk the possibility that there will be little vertical or horizontal lines if you are using liquid foundations. You might not even notice it in your bathroom lighting, unless you have a lighted makeup mirror, but you’ll definitely be able to tell in natural light. The solution to applying makeup evenly is using the “C” stroke. Try it yourself:
1. Pour a little of your foundation into the palm of your hand or mix your own color of foundation on a palette.
2. Tap the brush into the foundation makeup and then swish very lightly across the palette one time to remove excess.
3. Now, take the tip and lightly touch your face with it and rather than “swiping” it, do a little half circle stroke – a C and lightly lift off the brush. Continue with small C strokes in the area you are covering.
It only takes a little practice to develop skill with this method and you’ll find that it gives you a very natural looking finish. The great part is that if you are using more than one color, it will be extremely difficult to tell. The right tool makes a big difference. If you don’t get it right on the first try, switch to a different brand. When you find the right one you’ll never want to part with it.
Speaking of which, you need to keep all your tools clean. Cleaning makeup brushes on a regular basis is the only way to make sure that you are applying a pure product to your skin.
You’ll find that if you buy the best brush – a professional one – and use the C stroke method of applying your foundation that your complexion will look smoother instantly. Try it for yourself and see. You’ve got the necessary skills to do it.
